BOURNE — An Attleboro man was apparently driving drunk when he lost control of his vehicle and crashed off the Otis Rotary early yesterday morning, killing his stepfather and seriously injuring his mother, according to the police. The family was heading north on Route 28 in Bourne after attending a wedding, a state trooper told a Cape Cod Times freelance photographer at the scene. Just after midnight, Shawn Potrzuski, 32, of Attleboro apparently ran his 2003 Dodge Durango off of the road, crossed over Connery Avenue, entered the woods and struck a tree, according to a state police press release. Speed is also believed to have contributed to the crash, police said. Robert Coffey, 46, of Attleboro — Potrzuski’s stepfather, according to a trooper at the scene — was riding in the back seat. He was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash and was taken to Falmouth Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, police said. His wife, Karen Coffey, 53, who was sitting in the frontseat, was also taken to Falmouth Hospital with serious injuries. Her condition was not available last night. Potrzuski was treated for minor injuries at the scene. The police said Potrzuski and his mother were both wearing seat belts. Potrzuski was arrested and charged with motor vehicle homicide, operating while under the influence of alcohol, operating while under the influence of alcohol causing serious bodily injury, negligent operation of a motor vehicle and speeding. capecodonline.com

President Obama’s Uncle Facing Possible Deportation; Onyango Obama Stopped by Police for DUI

Barack Obama’s Uncle is facing possible deportation after being arrested for a DUI. Federal officials say Onyango Obama, also known as Omar, was ordered to leave the US and return to Kenya in 1992, but he flew under the INS radar until he was stopped last week in Massachusetts for driving while intoxicated. Onyango Obama, the half-brother of the president’s father, came to the US in 1963 as part of a program to help Kenyan students study in America and has recently been working as a liquor store clerk. The police report shows that as Onyango was booked and informed that he could make one phone call, he said, “I think I’d like to call the White House.”
