How Much Alcohol Can You Consume and Still Be Under the Limit?

Drunk driving is the everyday crime of the century. The majority of us knows at least someone who has a DUI, and most of us have at least one acquaintance who is additionally not even close to an alcoholic. Many individuals don’t know that their blood alcohol content (BAC) isn’t determined by how they feel, but is strictly controlled by their body weight, gender, and the amount they’ve had to drink. I’ll detail below the way the BAC is reached, how it is usually irrelevant of how a person feels, as well as the implications this can have on driving impaired.

A BAC is first determined by by using a breathalyzer, a device employed to determine a person’s BAC. If an officer believes a person is impaired, they will then have to have a blood analysis done. From here the BAC is in fact determined partly by way of a mathematic formula made famous in 1932 by a Swedish physicist named Widmark. The formula is quite complex, and without entering into a treatise on calculus, believe me that all applicable formulas are primarily based on the amount an “ordinary” person of a certain body mass can take in and eliminate after a period of time. Exactly what does this mean? Essentially, your BAC is dependent upon a mathematical formula of averages and has little to do with what you think it is.

There are numerous tables describing the effects of impairment based on BAC etc. Do not rely on these when figuring out blood alcohol content, as each person will be different. Even though the more extreme amounts, such as.15, lend themselves to obvious behaviors, at lower levels it’s nearly impossible to know how intoxicated somebody truly is.

From all this, it looks like no one can effectively say they are impaired. You have it! BAC calculation, while a complex practice, is far from concrete. Furthermore, alcohol impairment is extremely subjective, therefore it is almost just as impossible to find out how intoxicated someone else is, as it is to find out how intoxicated you are.

Do not fret though, folks. I have a solution for you. No more than one drink an hour, three drinks maximum. This course of action has actually been instituted on one Naval Base as a result of its’ success. The alcohol evacuation rate is approximately one drink per hour, and most people can drink up to three drinks and be under the legal limit. If you follow this limit, you are in most cases all set. Be warned that a person who doesn’t eat a proper diet, is extremely light, or under the influence of medication throws all calculations into the wind.

If you do find yourself charged with or under arrest for a DUI, you should immediately contact a reputable Phoenix DUI lawyer. An Arizona DUI attorney will represent you in court and can in many cases lessen the consequences of a DUI charge.
